There is no free tier. Budget for the tracker plus a membership from day one, and pick the term before Fi picks it for you.

Checked against Fi’s membership billing FAQ on October 14, 2026. These are US prices; Fi lists separate Canadian prices. Members who joined before this pricing keep their existing rates, according to Fi.

What You Get, and What Happens Without It

Every plan includes GPS tracking, activity monitoring, and escape alerts, per Fi’s billing page, and Fi’s membership page adds unlimited users and an extended warranty. Without an active membership, the tracker’s features don’t work. Fi doesn’t offer a reduced free mode the way some pet cameras do.

That makes Fi different from most of the devices we cover. A Wyze or Petcube camera works without a plan; a Fi collar is closer to a phone, where the hardware is only useful with an active plan.

The Billing Details That Catch People Out

Fi’s FAQ spells out a few rules worth knowing before you order:

  • The clock can start without you. If you don’t activate the tracker within 7 days of shipping, your membership starts automatically.
  • You start on the 1-year plan. At activation you’re placed on the 1-year plan, and you have 7 days to switch to the 6-month or 2-year plan.
  • There’s a minimum term. Your first membership term has a 6-month minimum commitment.
  • Renewals are automatic. Plans renew at the standard price for the term. If you cancel within 30 days of a renewal charge, Fi refunds that renewal; after 30 days it doesn’t.

The tracker itself has a 30-day satisfaction guarantee, so the best time to decide whether Fi suits your dog is that first month.

What It Costs Over Several Years

The tracker is a one-off cost; the membership comes back every term. Move the slider to see the total for one Series 3+ on each plan.

Which Fi Tracker to Buy

Fi sells three trackers: the Fi Mini at $99, the Series 3+ at $129, and the Fi Ultra at $299. The membership price is the same for all of them. If you add an Ultra to a dog that already has a Mini or Series 3+, Fi says it’s covered by your existing membership.

The Series 3+ is the one most people buy, and Amazon’s listing is sold by Fi.

GPS tracking, activity, and escape alerts with a Fi membership. 3.8★ (465 ratings, size L listing).

Amazon prices change often, and Fi runs its own promotions, so check both before you buy.

Fi vs Halo

If you’re also looking at the Halo Collar, the two solve different problems. Fi is a GPS tracker with escape alerts. Halo is a GPS fence that uses the collar to keep your dog inside boundaries you draw. Halo also needs a membership, starting at $9.99 a month, and the collar itself costs far more. Our Halo Collar subscription guide has the numbers.

Who Should NOT Buy a Fi

If you’re not prepared to pay around $170 to $200 a year for as long as you use it, don’t buy a Fi. The tracker has no use without the membership, and the first term has a 6-month minimum. It’s also a poor fit if you only want an occasional location check for a dog that rarely leaves your side; that’s a lot to pay every year for a feature you’d seldom use.

FAQ

Does Fi collar require a subscription? Yes. Fi says an active membership is required to use the Series 3+, Series 3, Fi Mini, and Fi Ultra.

How much is the Fi membership? In the US, $99 for 6 months, $189 for a year, or $339 for 2 years. Plans renew at the standard price for the term.

Does Fi have a monthly plan? Not in the US. Fi’s billing page lists 6-month, 1-year, and 2-year terms in US dollars.

Can I use a Fi collar without a membership? No. The tracker’s features need an active membership, and the first term has a 6-month minimum commitment.

Can I get a refund on a Fi membership? If you cancel within 30 days of an auto-renewal charge, Fi refunds that renewal. After 30 days, renewals aren’t refunded or prorated.

Bottom Line

  • You want a GPS tracker and will keep it for years: Fi Series 3+ on the 2-year plan, about $169.50 a year after the tracker.
  • You’re not sure it’ll suit your dog: use the 30-day guarantee, and switch off the default 1-year plan within 7 days if you want a shorter term.
  • You want a virtual fence rather than a tracker: look at Halo instead.
